The historic reopening of the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green was a resounding success!
After twelve years closed to the public, the Sanctuary on the Green came alive once more with the vibrant melodies and performances featured in the “Sanctuary on the Green” Benefit Concert held on September 17, 2022.
Produced by NiCori Studios & Productions for the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green, the benefit concert was a showcase of local talent, featuring an array of theater, dance, and musical groups. It was a night to remember, graced by the presence of Broadway performers who proudly call Bloomfield their home.
A Crucial Step Towards the Sanctuary on the Green Restoration
The concert wasn’t just a celebration of artistic talent; it was a crucial step towards the restoration of this historical gem. Proceeds from the event will play a vital role in revitalizing and ensuring the Sanctuary’s functionality for both the church and the community throughout the year.
The Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green stands as a testament to the town’s rich history. From its roots dating back to the late 18th century and its construction that commenced in 1797, this architectural marvel, crafted from local Belleville brownstone, exudes the elegance of the Wren-Gibbs model prevalent in early American churches.
Recognized for its historical significance, the Sanctuary was rightfully placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
A Star-Studded Affair at the Sanctuary on the Green
The Benefit Concert was a star-studded affair. Renowned New Jersey rhythm tap dancer, Jeffry Foote, stepping in for Karen Callaway Williams, and Broadway luminary Liz McCartney headlined the event, captivating the audience with their performances.
Alongside these esteemed guests, the Bloomfield Mandolin Orchestra, Broadway Performing Arts, NiCori Studios & Productions, Shooting Star Dance Center, Culture Connection Theatre, and the Church on the Green Chapel Choir graced the stage, showcasing the diverse talents that reside within Bloomfield.
Welcoming remarks were made by Bloomfield Councilman Rich Rockwell, who is also a trustee of the Historical Society of Bloomfield and Council Liaison to the Bloomfield Historic Preservation Commission, and Rev. Ruth Boling, pastor of the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green.
This remarkable evening not only celebrated artistry but also demonstrated the community’s unwavering support for preserving its cultural heritage. It was a testament to the town’s commitment to honoring its past while nurturing its vibrant artistic spirit for generations to come.
