BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Something new is coming to Bloomfield this fall.
On Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10, the inaugural Bloomfield Arts Crawl will invite residents and visitors to experience art throughout the township, turning familiar local spaces into destinations for creativity, connection and discovery.
The two-day event will take place Friday from 10:00am–9:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am–7:00pm, with participating locations concentrated around the Bloomfield Green, Washington Street and other nearby areas.
Rather than bringing everyone into a single festival space, the Arts Crawl encourages people to move through Bloomfield itself.
Local artists and creative work will be featured throughout a network of participating churches, community spaces, businesses, studios and other venues, giving visitors an opportunity to discover both the artists who live and create in and around Bloomfield and some of the places that make the township unique.
That idea is at the heart of the event: Bloomfield becomes the gallery.
The Arts Crawl is being organized by the Sanctuary on the Green Arts, Cultural & Community Alliance (SOGA) with community partners throughout Bloomfield. SOGA was created to support arts, culture and community programming while working alongside the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church on the Green to preserve and renew the historic Sanctuary on the Green as a community arts and cultural space.
But the vision for the Arts Crawl extends far beyond a single building.
Bloomfield has an extraordinary mix of artists, musicians, photographers, designers and other creative people, yet much of that creativity exists in separate pockets throughout the community. The Arts Crawl is an opportunity to connect those dots — bringing artists, venues, residents and visitors together across the township over one weekend.
It is also an invitation to explore.
You might visit a place you’ve passed countless times but never stepped inside. You might discover an artist who lives only a few blocks away. You might begin in one location and find yourself walking to another exhibition or creative space nearby.
And hopefully, you’ll see Bloomfield a little differently by the end of the weekend.
The first Bloomfield Arts Crawl takes place Friday, October 9 from 10:00am–9:00pm and Saturday, October 10 from 10:00am–7:00pm.
